Guide to Earning Serious Money with Google Adsense

Google Adsense is one of the best ways to make money online, and I call it a real blessing for the webmasters and bloggers…

Without Adsense it’d have taken me perhaps another 10 years to be what I am, today!

Well, let’s not get into what I am today, but let’s rather see what it takes to make money with Google Adsense (and then perhaps we can talk about the other stuff that you may not want to hear right now coz’ you’re super-excited to know more about this fabulous online earning opportunity!)

Anyway, back to basics – for those who don’t know what Adsense is, and how to make money through Google Adsense, it’s a contextual advertising program that allows webmasters to display relevant ads on their blog/website, and when the visitors click on those ads, publishers receive a share of revenue from Google.

So, it all sounds pretty simple, isn’t it? But, then you must ask – why isn’t really making a fortune with Google Adsense!

Can Anyone Really Earn from Adsense: Well, to be frank enough, the answer is NO! But, then you don’t need to learn rocket science to be able to do so – basically, Google allows publishers who have blogs that have some informative content, and which are more than 6months old, to apply for a Google Adsense account.

Once they get approved, they can start making money with Adsense – but initially the payout really sucks! Perhaps, you’d end up earning just about a dollar or two during the first 2-3months.

It all depends upon the content that you put on your blog, and the SEO campaign that you run for the same.

If you decide to consult an SEO Company, you shouldn’t be really looking to invest a fortune, because you aren’t going to get back much during the first one year or so. Hence, I’d advise that you learn the basics of SEO, and try to do this totally on your own!

Getting Started: Basically, getting started with Adsense requires you to set up a really informative blog, and then a LOT OF PATIENCE. (I really mean a lot, and that’s why I’ve written it in caps!) I remember when I got my first $100 Adsense pay-check after almost 7months – boy was I excited; hmmm I sure was… but then it took me 7 god damn months to do it! But, I must confess it isn’t that bad… Even if you take 8-10months – that’s not bad, is it?

So, initially you need to learn how to create Ads, and find out what ad formats work well on your site – there are no standard suggestions in this regard, but 336×280 ads in sidebar, 728×60 ads in header, and 300×250 ads in the posts tend to perform well for most sites/blogs.

Additionally, you should look at the heat-map of your site, and read all the suggestions given on Adsense support to have a fair understanding of ad placements, and different ad formats.

Blending the Ads: In most cases, visitors don’t like obtrusive ads that irritate them, but rather well blended ads with the content.

However, you’d be able to learn anything out of your ad placement experiments only after your blog receives a good deal of traffic – say about 1000 visitors per day.

Using a nice theme on your blog is also crucial to getting greater traffic levels. I enjoyed the goodies that I found in the Adsense Assassin package! – this is when by earnings took a plunge into the $1000+ range!

I strongly recommend you to try the Adsense Assassin package before you proceed further with your Adsense experiments…

Average Cost Per Click (CPC) & Click Through Rate (CTR) – CPC and CTR vary greatly from one niche to other – some of the niches like foreclosure, car insurance, software development, lawyers etc have really high CPCs ranging from $10-50; yes, this simply means you may earn up to $50 for a single click!

But, on the flip side, the Click Thru’ Rate (CTR), which indicates the clicking frequency and behavior of site visitors is really low for such niches!

How Much Can You Earn Through Google Adsense: Well, having read all these factors that decide your earnings, it all boils down to the amount of traffic your blog receives. So, a better question would be how much traffic do you really need to earn dollars, rather than pennies! And, I’d say at least 500,000 visitors/month – at this traffic level, your blog also qualifies for CPM ads from agencies like Tribal Fusion that pay flat $1-$3 per 1000 visits, which can complement your Adsense revenues BIG TIME!

The Golden Rule of 1000: According to my experience (over last 5 years), the average earnings per 1000 impressions is around $3 in most cases – but once again the figures could vary depending upon visitors’ behavior, niche, ad placements, and tons of other factors.

Therefore, having known everything about the Adsense you’re ready to make money with Google Adsense, but just don’t know where to start, isn’t it? Well, I was in your shoes just a few years back, and now I comfortably run my own online businesses sitting at home, dumping that stupid 9-6 job that made my life hell, before I discovered this secret…
